The companies plan to deliver a new SAP HANA Cloud Platform SDK exclusively for iOS that will provide businesses, designers and developers the tools to quickly and efficiently build their own iOS apps for iPhone and iPad, based on SAP HANA Cloud Platform, SAP’s open platform as a service. These native apps will provide access to core data and business processes on SAP S/4HANA, while taking full advantage of iPhone and iPad features like Touch ID®, Location Services and Notifications.

A new SAP Fiori for iOS design language will take the award-winning SAP Fiori user experience to the next level by combining it with a consumer-grade iOS experience to deliver on the robust user needs in the enterprise and enable developers to build next-generation apps. Apple Reports Second Quarter Results

CUPERTINO, California — April 26, 2016 — Apple® today announced financial results for its fiscal 2016 second quarter ended March 26, 2016. The Company posted quarterly revenue of $50.6 billion and quarterly net income of $10.5 billion, or $1.90 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $58 billion and net income of $13.6 billion, or $2.33 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 39.4 percent compared to 40.8 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 67 percent of the quarter’s revenue.

“Our team executed extremely well in the face of strong macroeconomic headwinds,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “We are very happy with the continued strong growth in revenue from Services, thanks to the incredible strength of the Apple ecosystem and our growing base of over one billion active devices.”

The Company also announced that its Board of Directors has authorized an increase of $50 billion to the Company’s program to return capital to shareholders. Under the expanded program, Apple plans to spend a cumulative total of $250 billion of cash by the end of March 2018.

“We generated strong operating cash flow of $11.6 billion and returned $10 billion to shareholders through our capital return program during the March quarter,” said Luca Maestri, Apple’s CFO. “Thanks to the strength of our business results, we are happy to be announcing today a further increase of the program to $250 billion.”

As part of the updated program, the Board has increased its share repurchase authorization to $175 billion from the $140 billion level announced last year. The Company also expects to continue to net-share-settle vesting restricted stock units.

The Board has approved an increase of 10 percent to the Company’s quarterly dividend, and has declared a dividend of $.57 per share, payable on May 12, 2016 to shareholders of record as of the close of business on May 9, 2016.

From the inception of its capital return program in August 2012 through March 2016, Apple has returned over $163 billion to shareholders, including $117 billion in share repurchases.

The Company plans to continue to access the domestic and international debt markets to assist in funding the program. The management team and the Board will continue to review each element of the capital return program regularly and plan to provide an update on the program on an annual basis.

Apple is providing the following guidance for its fiscal 2016 third quarter:

  • revenue between $41 billion and $43 billion
  • gross margin between 37.5 percent and 38 percent
  • operating expenses between $6 billion and $6.1 billion
  • other income/(expense) of $300 million

Apple Watch: ab Juni nur noch native Apps

Apple hat auf Kritik reagiert

Als Apple Ende 204 seine erste Smartwatch vorstellte, gab es Spötter, die die Watch lediglich als ein zusätzliches iPhone-Display am Handgelenk ansahen.  Der Grund lag darin, dass die vorinstallierten Apps alle mehr oder weniger auf dem gekoppelten iPhone liefen und die Informationen per Bluetooth-Verbindung an die Watch übertragen wurden. Dieses führte dazu, dass zum Beispiel beim Öffnen des Kartenprogramms bis zu 30 Sekunden vergehen konnten, bis die Smartwatch auf Eingaben reagierte. Im Zeitalter der ultraschnellen Datenübertragung ein Zustand, der wohl nur mit der Fahrt der ersten deutschen Eisenbahn im Jahr 1833 vergleichbar ist, die für eine Strecke von 6,2 km fünfzehn Minuten brauchte.

Freie Hand für Entwickler

Apple hat aber nunmehr reagiert und auf seine Kritiker gehört, indem den Entwicklern erlaubt wurde, native Apps für die Computeruhr bereit zu stellen. In einer Nachricht an die Entwickler gab der Konzern auf seiner eigenen Homepage unter dem Punkt „Anstehende Anforderungen für watchOS-Apps“ bekannt, dass ab 1. Juni dieses Jahres nur noch native Apps unter watchOS zugelassen werden. Allerdings werden nur diejenigen watchOS-Apps von Apple freigegeben, die sich auch ohne verbundenes iPhone nutzen lassen. Entwickler hingegen müssen zur Programmierung das watchOS SDK in der Version 2.2 oder neuer verwenden um einen direkten Zugriff auf die Hardware , zum Beispiel beispielsweise das Mikrophon oder die diversen Sensoren, zu bekommen.

Neue Funktionen

Dass Apple ein Update auf WatchOS 2 plant, war Insidern zu Folge seit längerem geplant. Nun hat aber Apple seine große Keynote auch dazu genutzt, um neue Funktionen für das geplante, große System-Update der Apple Watch vorzustellen. Wie mittlerweile bekannt wurde, wird zu den ersten nativen Apps unter anderem der Facebook Messenger gehören. Weiterhin ist sicherlich auch für viele interessant, dass man mit iTranslate sein gesprochenes Wort direkt von der Apple Watch in zahlreiche Sprachen übersetzen lassen kann.

Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference Kicks Off June 13 in San Francisco

CUPERTINO, California — April 18, 2016 — Apple® today announced that it will hold its 27th annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), hosting the creative talent behind the world’s most innovative apps, from June 13 through 17 in San Francisco. At WWDC, Apple’s developer community comes together from all corners of the globe to learn about the future of Apple’s four software platforms — iOS, OS X®, watchOS® and tvOS™.

Monday’s kickoff events, including the keynote address, will be held at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. The rest of the week’s conference sessions will take place at Moscone West.

Neuerlicher Streit um Entschlüsselung von iPhones

Apple verweigert sich

Irgendwie ist man bei dem Streit zwischen Apple und den US-Behörden, bei dem es um die Entschlüsselung von iPhones geht, an den Roma „Die Unendliche Geschichte“ von Michael Ende erinnert. Zunächst einmal schien es so, als sei der iPhone-Entschlüsselungsstreit grundsätzlich beigelegt, nachdem es mit Bundespolizei FBI gelang, das Smartphone eines Attentäters ohne Hilfe von Apple zu knacken. Die US-Regierung verzichtete daraufhin in diesem Fall auf weitere gerichtliche Schritte gegen das Unternehmen. Hintergrund: Apple weigerte sich trotz einer gerichtlichen Anordnung die Entschlüsselung des Smartphones des Attentäters Farook zu ermöglichen. Dieser hatte Ende vergangenen Jahres zusammen mit seiner Frau bei einem islamistischen Anschlag im kalifornischen San Bernardino vierzehn Menschen erschossen, ehe das Paar von der Polizei bei einem Schusswechsel getötet wurde. Wie dem FBI die Entschlüsselung gelang, ist nach wie vor unklar. Insider vermuten, dass die Ermittlungsbehörden einen Hinweis auf das Passwort bekamen oder es sich um das ältere iPhone-Modell 5c handelte, welches noch nicht über den zusätzlichen Hardware-Verschlüsselungsschutz (Secure Enclave) der aktuellen Modelle verfügte. Dieser Entschlüsselungsschutz erschwert ein Hacken erheblich oder macht diese sogar unmöglich. Trotz diesen Vermutungen kündigte zuletzt Apple an, den Entschlüsselungsschutz noch einmal zu verstärken. Allerdings geht der Entschlüsselungsstreit in eine neue Runde. Diesmal findet sich die Ursache  in den Ermittlungen gegen einen mutmaßlichen Drogenhändler.

Muss das oberste US-Gericht entscheiden?

Im neuen Fall fordert das Justizministerium von Apple, dass der Konzern  bei der Entriegelung des Smartphone des mutmaßlichen Dealers helfen müsse. Apple bleibt jedoch auch in diesem Fall dabei, dass die Ermittler damit ihre Befugnisse überschreiten würden und argumentiert, dass die Ermittler diese Daten nicht wirklich bräuchten, da der mutmaßliche Drogendealer, bereits aufgrund seines Geständnisses verurteilt wurde und lediglich das Strafmaß noch nicht festgesetzt sei. Daher liegt für Apple die Vermutung nahe, dass die Regierung einen gefährlichen Präzedenzfall schaffen will, um künftig allgemein den Zugriff auf iPhones im Zuge von Strafverfolgungen  zu erleichtern. Hiergegen sperrt sich Apple mit aller Kraft und ist bereit, den Streit bis vor dem Obersten Gericht auszutragen. Dabei sieht sich Apple von der gesamten Technologiebranche unterstützt.

 

Überraschendes aus Cupertino

Apple präsentiert das iPhone SE

Das Apple immer wieder für kleinere oder größere Überraschungen gut ist, zeigte sich wieder einmal auf  Apple Keynote“ in Cupertino am 21. März 2016, als Apple- Chef Tim Cook das iPhone SE präsentierte. Zwar war allgemein erwartet worden, dass dieses neue iPhone präsentiert wurde, aber es wird wohl günstiger sein, als vorab vermutet. Weiterhin ist es zwar klein, aber viel besser ausgestattet als allgemein angenommen wurde. Das Smartphone hat ein vier Zoll großes Display, eingelagert in einem Gehäuse, das identisch mit dem Gehäuse des Vorgängermodells iPhone 5s. Gleichfalls wurde von vielen Apple-Fans nicht unbedingt erwartet, dass als Prozessor der schnelle A9-Prozessor des iPhone 6s in das neue Smartphone verbaut wird. Damit ist das Smartphone in der Lage, mit LTE bis 150 Mbit/s zu surfen. Es unterstützt WLAN 802.11/ac. Damit User auch per Apple Pay bezahlen können, ist NFC Funk eingebaut. Die 12-Megapixel-Kamera ist gleichfalls identisch mit der Kamera des iPhone 5s dund hat demnach auch dessen bekannte Funktionen einschließlich des Trueton-Blitzes. Dabei zeichnet die Kamera auch 4K-Video auf. Auf der Vorderseite dient das Display als Blitz für die Selfie-Kamera. Zu kaufen ist das Smartphone zu einem Preis von 489 Euro, also wie eingangs geschildert günstig. Allerdings beträgt bei diesem Preis der Speicher nur 16 GB. Für eine 64-GB-Versinon muss dann allerdings 589 Euro bezahlt werden.

Auch ein zweites iPad künftig im Apple-Portfolio

Auch stellte Tim Cook Apple ein zweites iPad Pro vor. Dieses verfügt über ein 9,7 Zoll großes Display hat und ist mit  dem Eingabestift „Apple Pencil“ zu bedienen. Interessant ist sicherlich, dass das  Display um 25 Prozent heller ist, als das Display des iPad Air 2. Damit reflektiert es deutlich weniger. Darüber hinaus ist es als „True Tone Display“ ausgelegt. Das Pro Audio System mit vier eingebauten Lautsprechern dürfte einen guten Klang liefern. Als Prozessor kommt der A9x zum Einsatz, der sicherlich genügend Leistung bietet, um Notebooks zu ersetzen. Die günstigste Version mit einem 128 Speicher soll wird Euro kosten, für die Version mit 256 GB Speicherkapazität müssen die 1049 Euro bezahlt werden.

Apple Introduces 9.7-inch iPad Pro

Pro display
The 9.7-inch iPad Pro features advanced display technologies, including a True Tone display, which uses new four-channel sensors to dynamically adjust the white balance of the display to match the light around you for a more natural and accurate, paper-white viewing experience. The advanced Retina display is 25 percent brighter and 40 percent less reflective than iPad Air® 2, making content even easier to see indoors and out.
